  • Will DP Ruto Support Jalang'o's bid? Will Jalang'o vie on DP Ruto's party? These are some of the questions Kenyans are asking after the comedian announced his entry into politics.

Popular Kenyan comedian Felix Odiwour alias Jalang’o has announced that he will be on the ballot come the 2022 general election.

Speaking during an interview on Tuesday morning, Jalang’o expressed optimism that he’ll be the next Lang’ata Member of Parliament.

He urged young people to register in Lang’ata and support his bid to transform the constituency.

“Naenda kukuwa MP wa Lang'ata vijana mubadilishe kura mukuje tujenge Lang'ata mpya. Najipigia debe. I'm the next MP of Lang'ata. Mark this day, I don't go for things I can't get,” he said.

The announcement comes a few weeks after Jalang’o hosted DP Ruto on his Bonga na Jalas show where the latter challenged him to join politics.

According to the DP, Jalang'o is a hustler, owing to the tough life the comedian led growing up. The DP challenged him to join politics and inspire youths and other Kenyans out there that no matter where you are from, your dreams are valid.

"Mimi ni kiongozi wa mahustler hii Kenya. I want to unite hustlers in this country. Si wewe ni hustler? Ndio ufike mahali uko sahii, si umetoka mbali? Ingia siasa halafu nitakuambia. You can lead fellow hustlers and inspire a lot of youths," the DP told the comedian.

Currently, the Langata seat is held by Nixon Korir; a close ally of the DP. It will be interesting to see how the contest plays along considering the fact that Jalang’o and Korir both enjoy a cordial relationship with Ruto.

Jalang’o’s announcement has elicited speculation on the party he’ll use in the race since he has good relations with ODM leader Raila Odinga and DP Ruto; both of whom are rivals in the upcoming general election.

Meanwhile, Raila’s personal assistant Silas Jakakimba has also expressed interest in the Lang’ata seat.
