Malindi lawmaker Aish Jumwa has dismissed reports circulating on social media that her daughter is dead.
In a tweet on Saturday, the Member of Parliament asked the public to ignore the vile rumours adding that all members of her family are safe.
"Ignore any malicious rumours doing rounds on social media, that a member of my family has committed suicide. I want to categorically state that all members of my family are safe and sound," the MP said.
"Let’s shun propagandist agenda and baseless rumour-mongering," she added.
The rumour started circulating claiming Ms Jumwa's daughter committed suicide after a picture of a girl now established to be from ghana was shared on social media.
Some netizens claimed that the girl in the picture is the MP's daughter due to the resemblance with the MP but a spot check by NairobiLeo has established that the photo is of a Ghanian girl who committed suicide on Monday.
The girl was identified as Leticia Kyere Penman and was reported to have committed suicide on Monday in Ghana.
