The DCI has arrested a man who has been conning unsuspecting Kenyans by pretending to be a dealer in Apple products.

Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) yesterday, May 25, arrested a man who has been defrauding unsuspecting members of the public, by posing as a dealer in high-end mobile phones and associated products.

The fraudster, since identified as Ochokol Victor Maina, alias ‘Badman Anchor’, operates several Instagram pages including Bakcell Apple store and Netsol Apple store through which he has conned Kenyans hundreds of thousands of shillings.

Detectives were drawn to the matter after members of the public raised complaints after loosing their money to the fraudster.

"The suspect, who poses as a genuine trader dealing in iPhones and other Apple products was arrested on charges of obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 313 of the penal code," DCI tweeted.

Maina will be arraigned in court today, May 26 to answer to his crimes.

"Members of the public are advised not to purchase products from unverified traders who have flooded the online market, taking advantage of them," DCI urged.

The detectives have in the recent weeks alerted members of the public of various con schemes operated within major towns in across the country and online.

Kenyans are urged to report to law enforcement any suspicious dealings and beware of conmen in the streets and online.
