  • The Lucky Summer incident was the second in under one week, where the President’s security was put to task by persons who attempted to access the Head of State.

The Government through its spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has downplayed an incident where a man stepped in front of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s motorcade in Nairobi on Wednesday.

The President was on Wednesday afternoon heading to Lucky Summer for an official function, only for one of the on lookers to jump in front of his motor cade, forcing his security team to swing into action and detain him.

The incident elicited massive reactions with many netizens terming it a security threat, since the Head of State is one of the most protected persons in the country.

Reacting to the incident and the comments it elicited, Oguna noted that it was not a security threat since the man was excited to see the Head of State.

“On 26 May 2021, an individual stepped in front of the Presidential motorcade during the President's tour at Lucky Summer, Nairobi County.

“The individual is a citizen who was only excited to see the motorcade His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta. We wish to alay any fears that the President's security was under threat,” he said in a statement on his Twitter handle.

The Lucky Summer incident was the second in under one week when the President’s security was put to task by persons who attempted to access the Head of State.

Last week, an unknown man made his way towards the President as he issued his address during the official unveiling of the Lamu port.

The incident startled the president forcing him to take a temporary pause before resuming his speech.

Following the incidents, some netizens have queried the president’s security considering that he is surrounded by some of the most trained security personnel in the country.
