Activist Boniface Mwangi was the recipient of the Outstanding Youth Peacemaker award at the 9th annual Luxembourg Peace Prize ceremony.

Activist Boniface Mwangi was on Friday, May 28, 2021 feted with the Outstanding Youth Peacemaker award at the 9th annual Luxembourg Peace Prize ceremony.

The award ceremony was held at the University of Luxembourg as part of the Compassionate Leadership Summit on Climate, Health and Peace and the 5th Annual Transatlantic Dialogue conference.

The event did not occur in 2020, as it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Peace Prize ceremony was graced by distinguished peacemakers representing a diverse mix of Activists, Educators, Leaders, and Artists from around the world in ten categories.

"Boniface Mwangi Is one of the most vocal and courageous Kenyans of our generation. Recognized globally for his passion and excellence in photography, this photographer-cum-activist could not resist the call to activism after witnessing, first-hand, the brutality that disadvantaged Kenyans experienced in the wake of the Post- Election Violence of 2008," the Luxembourg Peace Prize website stated.

Mwangi has been a vocal activist both locally and internationally, known for his courage and rebuke of issues that have negated economic, social and religious prosperity both in Kenya and the world.

Expressing his delight at the fete, Mwangi appreciated congratulatory messages from members of the public, urging a united front in the fight against evils in society.

"Thank you everyone for your very kind words. I'm humbled by your love. Those who do good must do that fast and first because the evil doers never rest. Keep doing good. Keep spreading the love. Keep on speaking courage fluently," he said.

He has published a book, UnBounded, which has received major praise from world leaders including former US President Barack Obama and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"Boniface Mwangi Unbounded is well written with incredible photos, photojournalism at its best." veteran novelist Professor Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o described the book.
