A Police Constable gunned down two suspected thieves in Likoni, Mombasa during a botched robbery.

The suspects were attempting to break into a gas cylinder shop that is adjacent to the officer's house when their plans were foiled.

Reports indicated that the police officer ambushed them and fired 20 rounds of ammunition killing the duo.

Last month police launched a manhunt for a gang named ‘chafua’ believed to be behind the robbery and violent attacks near the Liwatoni floating Bridge in Likoni, Mombasa.

Police boss Jectone Opengo said some gang members had been arrested and arraigned adding that the hunt is on for the other members.

“We have crucial leads and we are hunting them down. We arrested some in the past and after being taken to court they are now out on bond,” said Mr Opengo.

After an attack that left a bodaboda rider with serious injuries tension was high after his colleagues vowed to revenge the attack.

The boda boda workers warned they would not sit back and watch as their members were attacked, yet the state was not protecting them.
