President Uhuru Kenyatta will on June 1, 2021, lead the country in marking the 59th Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu County.

In a statement released by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena on May 29, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta are set to arrive in Kisumu on Sunday, May30 for a three-day working visit of the county and the Nyanza Region. 

During the visit, the Head of State, will officially open completed government projects, inspect ongoing initiatives and launch new projects.

In his tour of the region, President Kenyatta will be accompanied by ODM Leader Raila Odinga, Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o among other local and national leaders. 

Members of the public have been urged to continue observing the Covid-19 containment measures, even as they observe the 59th Madaraka Day Celebrations.

"The President particularly appeals to the passionate residents of Kisumu City to give the best account of themselves by avoiding situations that may compromise national efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic," the statement read in part.

President Evariste Ndayishimiye of the Republic of Burundi is expected in Kisumu on Monday, May 31 which will mark the start of his two-day state visit of Kenya. 

President Ndayishimiye, who will be accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic of Burundi, Angeline Ndayubaha, will join President Kenyatta during his tour of the various NG projects in Kisumu County and the Nyanza Region.

"On 1st June 2021, His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the Nation in marking the 59th Madaraka Day Celebrations at the new Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu County," the statement reads.

President Ndayishimiye will be the Guest of Honour during the Celebrations that will held in strict compliance with the National Covid-19 Containment Protocols. 

During the two-day State Visit by Burundi first family, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and her Burundi counterpart Ndayubaha will be engaged in a number of programs with mutual beneftit to the two nations.
