President Uhuru Kenyatta gifted Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye 50 cows during his visit to Kenya.
On Monday President Kenyatta hosted his Burundian counterpart in Kenya ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations where the latter is the chief guest.
The two presidents toured the facility where the 50 Fresian heifers were and upon inspection, President Ndayishimiye thanked Kenyatta for the honour.
In a video clip, President Kenyatta was heard stating, “you are most welcome, they say a promise is a debt."
President Ndayishimiye arrived in Kisumu for a two-day state visit in Kenya where he was received by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
"Received Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye at Kisumu International Airport at the start of his two-day official visit to Kenya. President Ndayishimiye will be the guest of honour at the Madaraka day celebrations tomorrow," Raila said.
President Kenyatta on Monday also launched the multi-billion Kisumu Shipyard.
He was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, President Ndayishimiye, First Lady Angeline Ndayishimiye, Former PM Odinga, Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o among other local and national leaders.
The multi-billion project is part of Kenya Shipyards Limited's (KSL) aim to establish and develop the growth of shipbuilding industry in Kenya and the East African community at large.
The new Kisumu Shipyard will play a pivotal role in growing Kisumu Port into a modern regional lake transport hub. The Kisumu yard is the second of KSL's facilities with the largest under construction in Mombasa.
