  • Millions of Kenyans are facing different challenges, with all hoping that the President will address them in one way or the other.

The country is today celebrating 58 years of self-rule in what is commonly known as Madaraka Day.

The President will lead the celebrations from Kisumu City. Due to the Covid-19 situation in the country and specifically Kisumu, only 3,000 people will be allowed at the stadium, meaning millions will be following from their homes.

The numbers have been on the rise with new variants being reported in different parts of the country. Kenyans are eager to know when the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine will start being administered, and what plans the government has for millions that are yet to be vaccinated. Kenyans are hoping that the Head of State will provide a detailed communication on how hos government is handling the issue.


Economy and Development

With slightly over one year before the President leaves office, the Jubilee government has been rushing to complete several development projects across the country and initiate several others. The President is expected to issue an update of this and how Kenyans will benefit. Additionally, life has been tough for Kenyans due to the negative effects of the pandemic, Kenyans are hopeful that the President will address plans to fully revive the economy and measures to cushion Kenyans from the pandemic.

BBI Constitutional Amendment Push

This has been branded as the push for national unity. The BBI Bill suffered a setback at the High Court after a five-judge bench termed it unconstitutional. The President is the main crusader of the BBI process, Kenyans are hoping that he’ll use the Madaraka Day to explain the next way forward in respect to the appeal and any other options the handshake team is exploring.

General Status of the Country

A lot has been happening locally from increased cases of insecurity, people going missing only to be found dead, children reporting back to school, drought in some parts of the country among other issues. The President is expected to give an update on the general overview of the nation and some of the priorities his administration has in mind to tackle the challenges Kenyans are facing.
