TSC has embarked on the training of 90,000 teachers from all the 32,300 primary schools on the the new Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).

Over 90,000 teachers began their 1-week training on the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) on Monday, May 31, 2021, in preparation for the July Grade 5 pupils intake.

The Teachers Service Commission will conduct the trainings of tutor at zonal level across various parts of the country.

The process was rolled out targeting 3 teachers from each of the 32,300 primary schools nationwide. 1 headteacher and two teachers, one from Grades 1-3 and one from Grades 4-5.

TSC also announced that tutors from special schools will also be trained.

The tutors are being trained by CBC champions and curriculum support officers who underwent their CBC training in the week ended May 29.

TSC Quality and Assurance Director Reuben Nthamburi wrote to county directors, advising them to identify and invite teachers for training while also supervising the training exercises.

Nthamburi asked the directors to monitor the exercise and submit a report to the commission at the end of the training period.

"They should have at least 15 teachers per room," the letter by Nthamburi read in part, requiring the teachers to adhere to Covid-19 safety protocols.

The tutors will be educated on curriculum designs, methodology, and continued assessment, which underwent significant changes in the new CBC curriculum.

Under CBC, teachers will be the key assessors as the curriculum abolishes national examinations.

"Where there are no special schools, invite one teacher from the selected units," Nthamburi directed.
