Former Icaciri Secodary Schoool principal Jane Muthoni has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of her husband, former Kiru High School principal Solomon Mwangi.

Jane Muthoni a former principal at Icaciri Secondary School and her co-accused Isaac Ng’ang’a have been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of her husband former Kiru Boys High School principal Solomon Mwangi in 2016.

The two were found guilty of Mwangi's murder having planned it for months and are said to have executed it between November 6 and 11, 2016.

High Court Judge Joel Ngugi ruled that the 30-year sentence had taken into consideration the time the two had spent in holding.

The two were found guilty of the murder in April 2021.

Justice Ngugi ordered that Muthoni and Ng'ang'a have 14 days to appeal the ruling.

Mwangi had been reported missing on November 6, 2016. His mutilated body would, eight days later – on November 14, 2016 – be found dumped in a coffee plantation in Juja, Kiambu County.

Appearing in Court on May 18, Muthoni pleaded that the court be lenient in it's ruling on grounds that the family had gone through a traumatic experience.

During the hearing, June Mbuthi, Muthoni's daughter, pleaded with the court to forgive her mother despite being found guilty of murder.

She had argued that the family had undergone a tough time, for the five years their mother spent in remand.

"We all want justice for my father. He was my best friend but the absence of my parents has been so hard for my siblings and I for the past 5 years. We request the court to have mercy on my mum.

"I know it can't be undone but we don't have anyone we can fully rely on. All that time, we have been depending on third parties like relatives and friends," she had pleaded.

justice Ngugi had, however, ruled that a stiff custodial sentence against the accused is merited.
