Speaker Muturi Reacts to Alleged Plans to Impeach Him

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has reacted to reports that his critics are planning to impeach him, stating that he is unshaken.

Speaking in Embu on Sunday, Speaker Muturi dared his critics to bring the motion to Parliament, adding that he’ll be the first to sign it.

“Let them bring the motion and I will be the first to sign. That is a very minor thing, it cannot shake me. Whoever thinks he can approach the threshold, let him try,” Muturi said.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that some legislators have been holding meetings planning how to oust the speaker over his coronation as Mt Kenya spokesman.

According to Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech, the alleged impeachment is being orchestrated by the Kieleweke faction.

Koech alleged that Kieleweke has approached minority MPs hoping to convince them to back the impeachment once it is tabled.

“We are aware of the plans being sponsored by powerful forces outside Parliament. Kieleweke have been tasked to execute it but because they do not have numbers, they have been sweet-talking former Opposition MPs.

"The grounds we hear to be the reason for the intended removal are because he has started undermining the President who is the only spokesman of Mt Kenya… I assure you we will not allow that to happen,” Koech said.

Reacting to the reports, ODM chairman John Mbadi, who doubles up as Minority Leader in the National Assembly noted that he is aware of such a push.

“I am not aware of any censure motion. I have not been invited to any meeting to plan such a motion. Again, I don’t see any grounds to sustain such a push… Whatever they want from Muturi, let them not drag the minority side into it,” Mbadi opined.
