  • The key suspect in Shantel Nzembi's murder Mutindi Nthuku has been detained on instructions of Kajiado court.

A Kajiado court has ordered the prime suspect in Shantel Nzembi's murder to be detained.

Nativity Mutindi Nthuku will be detained in police custody for seven days as detectives continue investigations.

Police in Kitengela arrested the main suspect Nthuku over the murder of young Kitengela girl Nzembi. The suspect was reportedly flashed out of her hideout by plainclothes detectives.

Isinya DCI boss Jeremiah Ndubai confirmed the arrest noting that an identification parade has been organized for later today.

Ndubai further noted that the police are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure they come up with a watertight case.

"There is no perfect crime. This breakthrough was the culmination of detectives’ teamwork for the last 24 hours. Soon we will establish the motive of the killing," he said.

A postmortem exercise has also been scheduled for later today. Shantel was reportedly kidnapped on May 29, 2021. Her body was found dumped along a road in Kitengela town on May 31.

So far, four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder. On Thursday, two suspects; Francis Mbuthia and Livingstone Makacha were arraigned before a court and remanded for 10 days.

During his arrest, police found Makacha with a handset that was used to call Shantel’s mum while demanding a ransom. He is also believed to be the one who dumped the body.

For Mbuthia, he is being investigated for registering a line that was used to demand the ransom. Shantel’s family has urged the police to expedite the investigations and ensure justice is served.
