Homa Bay County has closed down the Health department headquarters as Covid-19 infections surge.

In a statement on Tuesday, the county government shut down the offices after five senior officials tested positive for coronavirus.

The county Health Administrator Elly Odhiambo said the offices will be closed the next week to pave way for fumigation exercise.

This comes after Kisumu county recorded an increase in its COVID-19 cases rising the number of infections to 5,739.

Kisumu has been recording a steady rise in Covid 19 infections and deaths after the confirmation of the highly double mutant India Covid strain.

Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said the lakeside city recorded a cumulatively of 1,666 cases in the previous month.

He ordered the closure of Kisumu County Headquarters indefinitely as part of measures aimed at taming the spread of COVID-19 in the area.

The county offices will remain closed effective 7th June 2021 and the provision of non-essential services remain suspended until further notice.
