The officer is said to have committed suicide at the Amisom offices behind the United States Embassy, which are located about 4 kilometers from Gigiri Police Station.

Earlier this year, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and the National Police Service (NPS) raised concerns over the rising cases of suicides and murder-suicides within the police force.

"Stagnation in rank, disciplinary actions arising from desertion and inadequate monitoring of junior officers leaving outside police lines are among causes of stress in officers identified," NPS said in a statement.
