The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has castigated an incident where a form 3 student drilled a nail into the principal's head.

The Teachers Service Commission has condemned an incident where a high school student assaulted his principal.

Geoffrey Rono, a Form 3 student at Ainamoi Secondary School, Kericho County is said to have drilled a 6-inch nail into the principal's head following a school fees dispute.

In a statement released on June 11, 2021, TSC called upon all education stakeholders to ensure the safety of tutors while also providing a safe space for learning.

"We condemn this incident which occurred at the school on June 9th with the strongest terms possible. The commission is concerned about the rising cases of unwarranted attacks towards teachers.

"We wish to call upon all stakeholders to do all that is within their means to ensure that schools are safe for conducive learning and teaching. We must all work to stop violence in schools. TSC is determined to ensure that all teachers are able to deliver on their duties," the statement read in part.

The commission informed that the principal has been treated and since resumed his duties.

Kericho County police commander Silas Gichunge yesterday, confirmed the incident, stating that Rono used a wooden plank, with a 6-inch nail, which he used to hit the principal on the head.

“It is true the student attacked the school principal with a wooden plank that had a six-inch nail that inflicted injuries on the head. We are looking for the culprit who has since disappeared to an unknown place,” Gichunge said.

Rono allegedly hit the principal after he was asked to clear school fee arrears of Ksh7,000.

Police have since launched investigations into the incident to ascertain the true cause of the matter.
