  • The entire Nairobi CBD is one of the areas that will be affected by the upcoming shutdown.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced a 24-hour water shutdown in the city and its environs.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, NCWSC announced that it will shut down water supply in the city center and some estates from Thursday 17th June at 6:00am to Friday 18th June 2021 at 6:00am to pave way for structural operations.

“NCWSC will shut down water supply pipeline along Uhuru Highway due to ongoing construction of the Express way starting from 6:00am on Thursday, 17th June 2021 to Friday, 18th June 2021 at 6:00am. This will facilitate interconnection of new and old water pipelines on Uhuru Highway between Museum Hill and KBC area to enable the release of road median to the express way road contractor,” Nairobi Water’s statement read in part.


According to Nairobi Water, the shutdown will affect the entire City Centre, South B and South C areas together with their neighborhoods, University of Nairobi, JKIA and Athi River EPZ.

Other areas to be affected by the shutdown include; the entire Industrial area, City Stadium, Maringo, Bahati, Buruburu and surrounding Estates.

Nairobi Water has apologized for any inconveniences that will be caused by the shut down an urged city residents to plan accordingly.

“We appeal to our customers for indulgence and also urge them to use available water sparingly as we work towards restoring supply. Any inconvenience is highly regretted,” Nairobi Water said.
