  • LSK President Nelson Havi has been dealt a blow. He was to deliver the decision determining the embattled CEO's fate on Monday 19, 2020.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi is facing rebellion over an attempt to remove one Mercy Kalondu Wambua from office.

LSK council members in a press statement on Monday said Mrs Kalondu had been effectively reinstated as CEO effective immediately after the majority of its members opposed her sacking.

"The council resolved that the Chief Executive Officer who was on suspension for the period 15th September 2020 to 19th October 2020 should return to work and resume her duties. We wish to confirm that the CEO has resumed her duties with immediate effect," an announcement by the council reads in part.

LSK council members said there were nine members who voted against the motion to oust Mrs Kalondu as the council CEO while such a decision required support from at least two-thirds of the members.

The members exposed an attempt by Havi to override the majority decision saying the LSK President "unlawfully and unjustifiably walked out on the council members," to solely draft the verdict.

Havi was to deliver the decision determining the embattled CEO's fate on Monday 19, 2020.

"The President does not have any power to veto the decision taken by a majority of the Council members," they held, saying Havi had acted in utter disrespect to the body.

"We wish to assure the membership and general public that the issue of the CEO has been resolved. We urge the President to respect the council members, democracy and majority decision," concluded the members.

Havi has been asked to seek guidance from senior members of the society on how to lead the council.

He is yet to speak on the matter.
