Politician Mike Sonko has blasted Speaker Kenneth Lusaka over after a woman moved to court to obtain child support from the Senate Speaker.

Sonko called out the Speaker for allegedly absconding from his duties after the story was covered by major news outlets on Monday, June 21, 2021.

A woman filed a case in court accusing Speaker Lusaka of impregnating her and refusing to take responsibility. Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, the lady asked the court to compel the Speaker to pay her a one-off payment of Ksh25 million as child support.

Alternatively, the woman wants the court to compel the Speaker to pay Ksh200,000 as monthly child maintenance.

According to Omari, his client and Speaker Lusaka were in an intimate relationship for over two years (from 2018 to May 2021).

The lawyer said everything was okay until her client discovered that she was pregnant and informed the accused, who insisted on terminating the pregnancy.

"The cause of their disagreement was exacerbated by Lusaka's insistence on terminating the pregnancy, a proposal that the applicant declined to accede to and now she is three months pregnant and counting since she discovered that she was expectant of Lusaka's child as she has not been intimate with any other man other than the respondent, a fact that can be confirmed through a prenatal paternity test," her court documents read in part as quoted by a local daily.

The lady argues that Lusaka’s failure to support and provide necessary resources need for prenatal healthcare pose a danger to the life of her unborn baby.

"Lusaka's defiant and brazen refusal to accept responsibility and assist the applicant to access esteemed hospitals capable of giving her highest standard of prenatal care threaten the life of their unborn child and is, therefore, in sharp contravention with the constitutional safeguards of life which begins at conception," her petition read in part.
