  • UDA's declaration comes two days after DP Ruto hinted at using the party to contest for the 2022 presidency.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA)party has rubbished reports that Deputy President William Ruto is its automatic presidential candidate in the 2022 general election.

Speaking on Monday, UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina noted that the party has not reserved the presidential ticket for the DP.

According to Maina, anyone interested in the party’s presidential ticket is free to apply for it following the set procedures.

She further noted that if the DP expresses interest in the party’s ticket, he will be subjected to the due process, without being favoured in any particular way.

“Don’t be surprised to find that there are other presidential candidates who have expressed interests to be the party’s presidential ticket. The Deputy President will, therefore, be open to the processes of the party,” she said during an interview on Monday.

Addressing the party’s association with the DP, Maina said Jubilee has been signing agreements with other parties, and as such, the DP is also free to associate with whichever party he wants, adding that UDA is still an affiliate of Jubilee.

“The UDA party had a coalition with the Jubilee Party. The agreement is still in existence to date. Even now, the Jubilee party associates itself with the ODM party. What is the difference when the DP associates himself with UDA?” she posed.

Meanwhile, DP Ruto recently hinted that he will vie for the presidency in the 2022 polls on a UDA party ticket after terming it the hustler's party.

Speaking in West Pokot on Saturday where he held a rally, the DP said Jubilee had been destroyed and turned into a tribal alliance.
