Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto has been holding coalition talks with some principals of the embattled National Super Alliance (NASA).

According to Joho, some NASA principals have been engaging with the DP-linked UDA party on a potential partnership ahead of 2022.

“When these NASA people were forming One Kenya Alliance and when Wiper was doing a cooperation pact with Jubilee, we kept quiet and never threw stones at them.

“Currently, we are even aware that some of them are negotiating with UDA, but as ODM we are not complaining. Why must they continue dragging Kenyans seeking a united country behind?” Joho posed.

According to Joho, it is wrong for the NASA principals to criticize ODM for plans to join forces with Jubilee, yet they have also formed the One Kenya Alliance.

On claims that ODM has betrayed its former coalition partners, Joho noted that the party did not win the presidential seat in 2017, therefore, since it is yet to achieve its mission, there is no way it will support another party’s candidate.

He maintained that the role of a party is to craft alliances that lead to winning, adding that the move to get into talks with Jubilee is meant to increase ODM’s chances of securing the top seat in 2022.

“If we did not win and parties are purely formed to capture political power and we have not captured power, then nobody should force us to support them,” Joho opined.

Responding to Joho, ANC and Ford-Kenya parties denied being in talks with either the DP or his UDA Party.
