Ministry of Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’I has announced the closure of several main roads across the country as the Safari rally competition is set to kick off from Thursday June 24, 2021.

In a Gazette Notice, Dr Matiang’i noted that the move is meant to ensure a smooth flow of the activities lined up at the World Rally Championship (WRC) event.

Below is a list of roads set to be closed, the date and duration for which they’ll be closed.

• Eldoret-Nakuru highway - Thursday June 24, 2021. To be closed at Eldoret town between midnight and 7pm.

• Kericho –Nakuru highway – Friday June 25, 2021. To be closed at Kericho between midnight and 7pm.

• Nyahururu-Nakuru highway - Saturday June 26, 2021. To be closed at Nyahururu between midnight and 7pm.

• Kikopey-Elementaita village road – Friday June 25 and Saturday June 26, 2021. To be closed between 2pm and 6pm on each of the days

• Mombasa-Nairobi-Maai -Mahiu-Naivasha highway – Sunday June 27, 2021. To be closed at Mlolongo.

• Narok-Maai Mahiu – Sunday June 27, 2021. To be closed at Suswa.

According to Matiang’i, after 6:00 am heavy commercial vehicles weighing three tonnes and above will be required to park at the nearest designated parking and await the opening of the roads at the designated times.
