Deputy President William Ruto has weighed in on ongoing coalition talks between Jubilee and ODM, noting that merging the two parties will be a tragedy.

Speaking during an interview on Thursday night, Ruto argued that members of the Jubilee party have not been involved in the decision, yet it has tremendous effects.

“The latest we had from Murathe and Tuju is that they have decided to go and merge Jubilee and ODM, which in my opinion is the most tragic thing that can ever happen. Because how do you take a party that has 200 plus MPs, Senators Governors without consultation, without a single meeting, without any reference, it doesn’t matter how low you think of the party…they deserve to be involved in such a momentous decision,” Ruto divulged.

The DP took a swipe at the Jubilee leadership, noting that he played a key role in creation of Jubilee, but is disappointed with how the party has turned out so far.

“I made a huge contribution in making Jubilee what it is. It is unfortunate that the people who were trusted with the running of the party, let the party leader down,” he said.

The DP made the remarks after it recently emerged that ODM was in talks with Jubilee over plans to sign a pact ahead of the 2022 general election.

According to Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, if all goes well, ODM and Jubilee will field a joint Presidential candidate in the spirit of the handshake.
