Alarm was raised after students tested positive for coronavirus

Alarm was raised after students tested positive for coronavirus in Nandi County barely a week after schools reopened.

A case was confirmed by the county after a student at Kabote SDA Secondary school was placed in isolation centre.

"A team of experts was dispatched to the schools and tests revealed a case at Kabote Secondary,” said Health Executive Ruth Koech.

The health teams are closely monitoring schools to ensure the situation is under control," she added.

Another incident was reported at St Peter's Boys in Kakamega county after a Form Four student tested positive for the virus.

The student was placed at an isolation centre in Mumias and is currently in a stable situation.

County Health Executive, Dr Collins Matemba confirmed the incident adding that the learning institution was being monitored.

The closure of schools in March this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, interrupted learning for over 17 million students, according to UNICEF.
