Barely a month after Justin Muturi was coronated as Mt. Kenya spokesperson at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga in Murang'a County, the National Assembly Speaker has now declared that he will be vying for President in next year's General Election.

Addressing a section of religious leaders who prayed for him Saturday, Muturi exuded confidence that he would clinch the top in the 2022 General election.

"It's very difficult to go around talking about running for a second-place. I don't believe in that, I am very clear in my mind, with your support and prayers, we will clinch that top seat," the NA speaker affirmed.

On May 22, 2021, speaker Muturi was coronated by Kikuyu elders as the Mount Kenya spokesperson at the Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine.

The event was heavily guarded, with police officers stationed on all sides of the road leading up to the shrine, as they inspected vehicles and frisked persons who attended the ceremony.

However, a section of leaders from Mt. Kenya dismissed the coronation terming the move as inconsequential.

Among the leaders who faulted the coronation include Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and MPs Maore Maoka (Igembe North) and Kathuri Murungi (Imenti South).
