  • According to the legislators, school buses are mostly bought through CDF, as such, Magoha has no business directing how the buses are used

Three Members of Parliament have threatened to kick start the process of impeaching Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha over a directive banning the use of school buses for non-academic purposes.

Two weeks ago, CS Magoha noted that anyone who intends to hire a school bus should seek authorization from the Ministry.

“For the avoidance of doubt, school buses are to carry children using COVID-19 protocols, action is to be taken against anybody using the buses for any other reason.

“We will not sit and allow people to misuse facilities of our children…We will give authorisation from Jogoo house, it does not matter if you are a government official,” he said.

Reacting to Magoha’s remarks, the three legislators; Joshua Kandie (Baringo Central), Charles Kamuren (Baringo South) and Daniel Tuitoek of Mogotio argued that school buses are mostly bought through CDF, and as such, Magoha has no buses directing how the buses are used.

“I’m telling the Minister of Education, if that behavior goes on, I will make sure we start the process of removing him from the Ministry…I’m ready to mobilise all MPs so that we do an impeachment for him,” Kandie said.

On his part, Kamuren accused Magoha of showing dictatorial tendencies, claiming that he did not consult stakeholders before issuing the directive.

“Hii amri wewe unatoa, mlikubaliana na nani? Apana amka siku moja kwa sababu wewe ni Professor na wewe ni waziri unaamuru tu, tabia kama hiyo hatuhitaji Kenya hii, hio ni tabia ya lecturing…,”Kamuren said.
