Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued an update on the status of President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to the Ukambani region. 

The wiper party leader stated that they had agreed on phased visits by President Kenyatta after a consultative meeting together with leaders from the lower eastern region. 

"Held a consultative meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Cabinet, and leaders from the Lower Eastern region on his visit to the region.

"We agreed on phased visits by the President to the region in the coming days," Kalonzo tweeted.

A statement issued on Tuesday by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena indicated that Kenyatta would make a scaled-down inspection of development projects in the region. 

"It is notified that whereas His Excellency the President remains keen to assess the impact of his Administration’s transformative projects and programmes across the Country, in this instance he will make a scaled down inspection of identified projects in the Lower Eastern Region in the company of all local leaders, on a date(s) to be notified."

"The presidential engagement will be conducted in full fidelity with the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health," part of the statement read. 

On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta has canceled the planned two-day tour of the Ukambani region due to Covid-19.

The Head of State cited fears that the visit may trigger a spread of Covid-19.
