Divisions continue to rock President Uhuru Kenyatta's faction of Jubilee Party with the proposed rebranding of the party's colours, slogan and symbol.

Members of President Uhuru Kenyatta's faction of Jubilee Party are divided over the proposed rebranding of the party's colours, slogan and symbol.

The change was supposed to indicate the party had permanently cut ties to Deputy President William Ruto.

The move had been pushed by Jubilee Party deputy secretary-general Joshua Kuttuny who said the party would shed off colours associated with the defunct United Republican Party (URP) which was associated with DP Ruto.

The party was also expected to make changes to its symbol, which shows clasping hands representing President Kenyatta's and DP Ruto's union.

Jubilee's slogan, 'Tuko Pamoja' was also set for a change.

The move has been criticised by party members with Nyeri town lawmaker  Ngunjiri Wambugu saying the change of colours to indicate someone had left the party was not wise.

"A party logo and colours cannot be changed every time some members leave. Our parties must now be bigger than individuals," Hon. Wambugu said.

Mwea MP Wachira Kabinga was in agreement with Wambugu.

"When another person leaves, shall we also change our colours and symbols," he asked during an interview with the Nation.

Other lawmakers took a milder stand to the proposed changes with Maua MP Kareke Mbiuki and Limuru MP Mwahi Mungai calling for public participation before any changes to the party are implemented.

Jubilee Party has been rocked by defections with lawmakers from President Uhuru's backyard jumping ship to Deputy President William Ruto's 'hustler movement'.

The ruling party has also failed to impress in by-elections across the country and recently lost the Juja constituency seat to Moses Kuria's People Empowerment Party (PEP).
