The National Police Service (NPS) has rubbished a viral video suspected to be of a traffic police officer being robbed of his phone while overseeing traffic control at one of the roundabouts in the city.

In a statement on Wednesday night, NPS said after conducting thorough investigations, it has established that the video is fake.

According to NPS, the video was created with an aim of tarnishing it’s. NPS has urged members of public to ignore the video.

 “Our investigations have revealed that a video circulating on social media insinuating to be of a police officer being snatched a phone is a manipulated video whose intention is malicious. We urge members of the public to ignore it,” read a statement shared on its social media handles.

In the video that went viral on Wednesday, an alleged policeman is seen having a conversation on the phone while controlling traffic on a roundabout, before a boda boda carrying two passengers moves towards the alleged officer.

One of the passengers on the bike stretches his hand and snatches the phone from the alleged officer after which the bike speeds off.

Following the quick robbery, the alleged officer is seen in a confused state and at one time tries to chase the thugs but surrenders after realizing that they are long gone.
