  • The Kiambaa seat fell vacant following death of then MP, Paul Koinange.

Jubilee candidate in Kiambaa by-election Kariri Njama on Thursday received a major boost after former aspirants threw their weight behind him.

The move came shortly after a meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former aspirants at State House.

"All the former Kiambaa aspirants have agreed to support Kariri Njama win the Kiambaa seat," Jubilee tweeted.

This comes about a month after Jubilee announced that it had settled on Kariri as its candidate in the by-election.

"Under the supervision of the National Elections Board & the County Elections Board, we present to you Mr Karanja Kariri Njama," said the party in a statement.

The Kiambaa by-election is set for July 15, 2021 and has been branded as a contest between President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

DP Ruto's new party is seeking to stamp its authority in the central region by clinching the seat, but it faces stiff competition from the ruling party, Jubilee.

The Kiambaa seat fell vacant after MP Paul Koinange's death, on Wednesday, March 31.

The lawmaker who was related to President Uhuru Kenyatta succumbed to Covid-19 related complications.

Mr Koinange was being treated at the Nairobi Hospital where he passed on.
