Police have temporarily dropped assault charges against Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi.

Havi was arrested on Tuesday morning and was charged with assaulting LSK CEO Mercy Wambua.

Mercy Wambua had filed a complaint at Muthangari Police Station where she alleged that Mr Havi had injured her right arm and finger as he strong-armed her out of a boardroom at the body's Gatanga Road offices.

After being grilled for hours at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices along Kiambu road, Havi was released on a Ksh 10,000 cash bail.

The chaos in the leadership of the LSK dates back to September 2020 when Nelson Havi suspended Ms Wambua on accusations of gross misconduct and incompetence.

She was reinstated to her position in October by council members.

On June 26th 2021, a special meeting of LSK members was convened with a majority voting to send the LSK CEO on compulsory leave.

Ms Wambua's position will be filled in 45 days from the date of the vote after she gets a fair hearing.
