Ministry of Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Betty Maina was on Wednesday night involved in an accident while inspecting development projects in the South Rift region.

Reports indicate that a boda boda rammed into the vehicle carrying CS Maina on Wednesday night along the Kericho-Litein highway.

Fortunately, the CS and her aides escaped unhurt.

According to Kericho County Commissioner Karungu Kamau, the accident happened while the CS was being transported home at around 9pm.

"A motorcycle rammed into the CS's official vehicle near Jericho in Kericho while Ms Maina was on her way home… No one was injured in the accident and the CS is safe," Kamau said as quoted by Nation.

Before the accident CS Maina had visited several sites in the county and vowed to assist various companies grow in a bid to improve service delivery.

“My ministry is determined to spur growth of cottage industries through out the country as the initial step towards achieving the manufacturing pillar of the Big 4 Agenda.

In my tour to provide impetus on projects sponsored or in need of government support in Kericho County, I visited Kaolin paints industries in Kapkitui and Mulkelwet Bauxite mining cooperative society in Ainamoi.

Our vision as a Ministry is to establish a Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) regional Centre in Kericho to assist in the incubation of cottage industries and value addition of products," she said in a statement posted on her Facebook page.
