Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia has sent a warning to school heads after reports indicated that some schools were flouting the fees guidelines issued by the ministry.

Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia has revealed that the commission is investigating several school heads over reports of flouting school fees guidelines.

Dr Macharia issued a stern warning to principals across the country threatening punishment for the school heads found raising school fees beyond the maximum amount allowed by the Ministry of Education.

This comes just days after the Ministry of Education under CS George Magoha slashed school fees in line with the shortened 2021 school calendar.

Students in national and extra county schools in major towns will now pay a maximum of Ksh 45,000 annually, which is a Ksh 10,000 reduction from the previous fees charged.

Students in county and sub-county schools in other parts of the country will now part with a maximum of Ksh 35,000 annually.

The government will pay a Ksh 22, 244 subsidy for every secondary school student.

Dr Macharia's statements come on a day when Kenyan schools opened their doors to 15 million pupils across all age groups.

This is the highest number of pupils who will be in school since COVID19 hit the country in March 2020.

KCPE 2020 candidates will start streaming into their secondary schools on Monday, August 2nd.

This huge number of students will test schools on their anti-COVID19 preparation even more so as the Delta variant claims more lives.
