The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has narrated on social media how a night meeting between Frederick Opiyo, 50, and Mary Mwende, 35 ended in the man's death.

In a series of tweets posted on Wednesday afternoon, the DCI revealed that the two were long term lovers and their Tuesday night meeting was just one of their many dates.

The late Opiyo was a well-known construction guru whose skills had earned him jobs in Murang'a and Nairobi.

On Tuesday, Opiyo asked Mwende to prepare Ugali which they would take with fish.

Upon his arrival in Maragua, Opiyo booked a room at a local lodging before inviting his lover to join him.

The two shared a meal after which Opiyo went into the washroom. He would return two minutes later.

At this moment, Mwende left the room to take a shower.

While in the bathroom, Mwende heard her boyfriend groaning seemingly out of breath.

She would find her boyfriend panting. The distraught Mwende rushed to find help.

Outside the room, she found nightguard Stephen Mbau and lodge attendant Bibiana Mulee.

The three found Opiyo motionless on the bed upon their frantic return to the room.

Police officers from Maragua Police Station who responded to distress calls from the lodging found Frederick Opiyo dead.

A search of the room recovered an empty sachet of erectile dysfunction medication, one unused condom and a used one.

Opiyo's body was taken to Murang'a Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem.

The number of Kenyan men dying after taking the supposedly magical 'blue' pill has been on the rise in recent times.

In late December 2020, an elderly man died in Kuria after taking performance-enhancing drugs and his lover turned down his sexual advances.
