CS Amina Mohamed's Husband Dies

Khalid Ahmed, the husband of Sports Ministry Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has died.

The family said that the publicity-shy industrialist passed on at around 5 am on Thursday morning at Karen Hospital after a short illness.

The late Ahmed was an entrepreneur par excellence and is credited with running the family businesses while Amina Mohammed worked in international organisations and government.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has condoled with the family of Sports CS Amina following the death of her husband. 

“I have received the disheartening news of the passing away of Mr Khalid Ahmed with great sadness. Mr Ahmed was a great person, a gentleman and a strong pillar of his family.

"My deepest condolences to my colleague and friend Cabinet Secretary Amina, the children and the extended family as they come to terms with the sudden passing away of Mr Ahmed.

"I pray that God, the Almighty grants you the fortitude and grace to go through this difficult period of mourning your beloved spouse, father and relative," the President condoled with CS Mohamed.

Little is known about the late Ahmed as he preferred keeping out of the public spotlight.

However, when he lost his mother Shameem in 2018, President Uhuru spoke about him in glowing terms in his condolence message to the family.

"She was a great woman, committed to excellence and dignity as reflected in how she brought up a distinguished family including Mr Khalid Ahmed, husband to CS Amina Mohamed, whose service and patriotism have helped transform our nation in many ways," President Uhuru said.

This is the second close relative CS Mohammed is losing in what has been a difficult 4 month period for her.

In March 2021, she lost her brother  Esmael Mohamed Jibril who passed away while undergoing treatment in India.

The astute businessman was the brains behind Java Coffee house and Jibram Investments.
