Education Ministry Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has extended the registration deadline by two weeks to August 14th.
This will allow all candidates to get registered after the previous deadline lapsed on Saturday, July 31st.
According to the statement released by the Ministry of Education on Monday morning, 1,218,892 students and 824,392 pupils have been registered for the KCPE and KCSE exams respectively.

This represents a 2.29% and a 9.54% increase in KCPE and KCSE candidates which Dr Magoha attributed to the 100% transition policy passed by the government in 2018.
"Since the exercise closed on July 31st, a number of school heads have requested KNEC to allow more time to mop up candidates who were not registered by the deadline," CS Magoha's statement said.
The school heads attributed some of the delays in registration to school movements due to the COVID19 pandemic.
While the government had extended the deadline, CS Magoha insisted that there would be no window for late registration of candidates.
"Any candidate who fails to register for the 2021 examination to be sat in March 2022 will only be allowed to sit the examination in December 2022," the statement said.
Cabinet Secretary George Magoha insisted that no school with less than 30 candidates would be registered as an examination centre.
Instead, candidates in such schools would have to sit their examinations at schools within their locality that had over 30 candidates. Special Needs schools have not been affected by this declaration.
Cs Magoha's declaration comes on a day when the 1,179,192 KCPE 2020 candidates start reporting to their respective secondary schools.
The form ones are expected to start streaming into their schools from Monday, 2nd August to Friday 6th.
