The Ugandan government has distanced itself from any involvement on the recent aborted trip by Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto.

In a statement on Thursday, the Ugandan government noted that it was not requested to provide protocol for DP Ruto, adding that the Kenyan High Commission in Uganda did not brief the authorities on the said visit.

“The @ministryofforeignaffairsug protocol department has no record whatsoever that there was a request for us to provide protocol services to His Excellency Ruto,” the statement read in part.

Additionally, Uganda noted that the matters is a Kenyan issue since it happened with the Kenyan boarders, adding that any queries on the DP’s aborted visited should be channeled to the Kenyan High Commission.

“Our foreign policy is very clear that we don’t interfere in the internal affairs of any country what so ever. We have no authority, we have no power over Kenyan government, they have their own reasons why the prevented HE Ruto from coming to Uganda and that should be channeled to the Kenyan High Commission,” the Ugandan government said.

DP Ruto was meant to travel to Uganda on Monday afternoon, but was blocked from leaving the country over claims that he lacked clearance from the relevant agencies.

The DP has, however, protested the move claiming that it is art of the frustration and intimidation he and his allies have been going through since the March 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
