Dr Ezekiel Mutua's tenure at the helm of the Kenya Film Classification Board has come to an end after he was asked to proceed on terminal leave.

Christopher Wambua, the director of public communications at the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has been appointed to take over from Dr Mutua.

The 'moral policeman' was allegedly fired on Thursday night by the ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, a move which was termed unprocedural by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo.

Dr Mutua's replacement at the helm of the film regulation body has worked at the Communications Authority of Kenya for over a decade having joined CAK in 2000.

The Mass Communications graduate from the University of Nairobi started out as an Assistant Public relations manager, a position he held for twelve and a half years.

In January 2013, he was appointed as the Communications Manager at CAK and in 2015 rose to become the Director of Communications and Public Affairs at the CAK. He will hold the KFCB CEO position on an interim basis for two months.

Dr Ezekiel Mutua exits KFCB after serving as the CEO since November 2015.

His strict moral guidelines have rubbed entertainers the wrong and he has constantly been accused of stifling the growth of Kenya's creative industry.

On Friday, Dr Mutua was still performing his duties as the KFCB boss even as the news of his replacement broke.

He attended an event at a college in Mugua in Kiambu with KFCB brand ambassadors where he campaigned for the creation of clean content.
