Deputy President William Ruto has condemned the detainment of Turkish businessmen Harun Aydin by Immigration Officials at Wilson Airport after landing from Uganda.

DP Ruto claimed that Aydin was a victim of ‘political pettiness’ by cartels that criminalise enterprise.

“Turkish investor,Aydin Harun, is a victim of top-down arrogance bred by patronage & cartels that criminalise enterprise.Importers' goods declared contraband,Africa spirits closed, keroche harassed, now investor with valid papers labelled terrorist.Tragedy of political pettiness,” DP Ruto tweeted on Saturday night.

Mr. Aydin was taken for questioning after landing from Uganda on Saturday.

He was among the people who were recently blocked from travelling to Uganda with Deputy President William Ruto.

Mr Aydin became a subject of discussion in Kenya after it emerged that the State may have blocked the DP’s travel because of Aydin’s past investigation on claims of being associated with a terror group.

Aydin was arrested at a German airport in 2001 over terror links after his luggage contained suspicious items.

The Turkish Embassy in Nairobi however, defended the businessman over claims that he has a criminal record, and shouldn't be in the country.
