Human Rights Activist Boniface Mwangi has announced that he will not be vying in the 2022 general election.

In an emotional video posted on social media on Monday, the 2017 Starehe constituency contestant announced that he was resigning from his position as the Ukweli Party Leader.

"I will not be vying in next year's elections," Mwangi said decrying the quality of leaders Kenyans elect.

Mwangi said that the party needed an active political player to lead it into the next general elections.

However, he said that he would continue being an Ukweli party member as he believed in the party's ideals.

In the video titled 'Courage Takes a Rest' Boniface Mwangi also announced that he would withdraw from serving Kenyans as the go-to person when Kenyans suffer human rights abuses.

" I feel like I am in living an unending nightmare, the stories, images I receive break me every single day. I have received images of a one-year-old child who was defiled and she was going through surgery," Boniface Mwangi described his daily experiences.

The activist said he no longer had the capacity to handle such situations and was therefore removing himself from that situation.

Mwangi revealed that he wanted to have more balance in his life where he would prioritise those who loved him.

"Change is not a sprint, it is a marathon. And in a marathon, you tire and I'm just slowing down a bit so that I don't lose my mind," the award-winning human rights activist said.

While he would continue helping Kenyans as a private citizen, Boniface Mwangi will now take more time and spend it with family and friends as he regrettably missed key milestones in relationships due to his priorities.
