Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has slammed Deputy President William Ruto for apologizing to Turkish Businessman Harun Aydin for his controversial deportation by the Kenyan government.

In a tweet on Monday, DP Ruto condemned Aydin’s deportation, adding that he had contacted the businessman and apologized on behalf of the Kenyan government.

According to Ruto, Aydin was a victim of political witch hunt by his opponents and critics.

“Just talked and apologised on behalf of GoK to Aydin Harun, now in Turkey, who was politically arrested, tortured and falsely profiled as a 'terrorist' but later asked to fly out not to a shame those involved. Political pettiness is expensive/dangerous and will destroy our economy. Shame,” he tweeted.

Reacting to the tweet, Governor Ngilu noted that Ruto cannot be apologizing on behalf of government since it is the same government that authorized Aydin’s deportation.

She questioned whether the DP is running a parallel government to that of President Uhuru Kenyatta, adding that the DP is “sowing confusion in government”.

“Ala! Kwani kuna serikali ngapi huku Kenya? Bw’ DP, which GoK are you apologizing on behalf? The Government of Kenya arrested the alleged terror financier. The confusion you have been sowing in government and across the country sasa umeanza ku-export to our trading partners?” she tweeted.

Aydin was arrested on Saturday shortly after landing in Kenya from Uganda. He was expected to be presented in court on Monday, but it later emerged that he had been deported.

Aydin was part of the entourage for DP Ruto’s aborted trip to Uganda.
