Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has given more details on Turkish Businessman Harun Aydin and why he was deported on 9 August 2021.

CS Matiang'i disclosed that Mr. Aydin gave a dummy contract after claiming he was working in the energy sector.

The Interior CS further revealed that the Turkish businessman was sneaked into the country.

"Harun Aydin's documents said he was working in the energy sector but his contract was a dummy. He got a work permit on 25th June 2021. Security agencies flagged Aydin for his regional travels.

"Harun Aydin’s track movement is a characteristic of people involved in money laundering & terrorism. His passport shows, he has left the country twice without a stamp of arrival; this means he was sneaked into the country," Matiangi's said while appearing before the National Assembly’s Committee on Administration and National Security on Friday, August 13.

CS Matiang'i added, "I have in the last two years deported 40 people of this kind. There are no reasons to apologize, we did nothing wrong. The numbers he gave for permit application are answered by some women when you call. As it is we are dealing with the wrong person."

The Interior CS also disclosed that Mr. Aydin had been flagged by an intelligence organization in another country.

"Harun Aydin had been flagged by an intelligence organization in a neighboring country; in that country, one of the people he was dealing with was arrested in a different country for trying to bribe a minister & a number of other things," CS Matiang'i mentioned.

The CS further clarified that the Government of Kenya had not apologized to Turkey but were in talks with his Government and agreed to surrender him.

"Security agencies in our country were in talks with his country (Harun Aydin’s) & agreed on basis of mutuality to surrender him to his country. The government of Kenya has not apologized, we are a country run by law & order, there is a way Govts. deal with each other," Matiang'i stated.

This comes days after Deputy President William Ruto claimed that he had apologized to Mr. Aydin for his deportation.

"Just talked & apologised on behalf of GoK to Aydin Harun, now in Turkey, who was politically arrested, tortured & falsely profiled as a 'terrorist' but later asked to fly out not to ashame those involved. Political pettiness is expensive/dangerous & will destroy our economy. SHAME," said DP Ruto.
