Ex-Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has weighed in on the separation of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and his wife Lilian Nganga, noting that the two should be given space and time to sort out their issues the best way they know how.
In a statement posted on his socials, Sonko urged the media to stay away from the two, adding that their separation is a private affair that does not need to be on the news.
He advised the couple to consider forgiving each other, adding that they have been together for over 15years and have been instrumental in growing each other.
"Lilian, you are a strong woman and continue being strong especially during this difficult time when you are undergoing challenges. We say behind every successful man there's a woman. You have been with Dr. Alfred since 2011 when I was elected as MP 15 years ago, meaning you met this guy before he became Governor.
"My humble appeal to both of you please, forgive each other and forget about what transpired in your lives as a family and just agree the devil is a liar and he has no place in your lives. This is all about the two of you as a family, so let people talk during the day but they will all go to bed at night and life will go on. I plead with both of you, sameaneni because hii ni mambo ya kidunia," Sonko's statement read in part.

On Sunday, Lilian Nganga announced separation from Governor Alfred Mutua.
Through her Instagram Page, Nganga noted that she decided to end her long-term relationship with Governor Mutua two months ago.
Ms. Nganga also mentioned that she had stepped down from her role as the County First Lady.
"The only constant in life is change and we must be present and aware to appreciate and embrace it. Winds of change blew my way and two months ago, I decided to end the long term relationship with Dr Alfred Mutua. We had a good run and I am forever grateful to God he brought us together. We remain friends," part of her statement reads.
She adds, "With this, I put down the Machakos First Lady cap - and what an honor it has been to be of service. I will continue to do my projects close to my heart, charity work etc through the 'Lilian Nganga Foundation' as this has always been formed who I am as a person. God's plans are always for our good. Never doubt or question."
Reacting to Lilian's announcement, Governor Mutua also put up a post confirming that they had agreed to separate and end their relationship two months ago.
The Machakos Governor added that they would remain close friends with Ms. Nganga adding that she will remain a close advisor.
"There is a song by Roger Whittaker that has the line: “the first time we said hello, we started to say goodbye. Lillian and I have been a blessing to each other. Two months ago, we decided to slowly disengage. We are in amicable terms and remain very close as friends. We will continue to talk, meet and share ideas constantly," Mutua's statement read in part.
