Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha is expected to release the placement results today.

Over 700,000 students who sat for the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will today, August 16, 2021, know the institutions they have been selected to and the courses they will pursue.

Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha is expected to release the placement results today.

This will shed light on the number of students who will miss out on their preferred courses due to the high competition.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is expected to release a report, detailing the most preferred courses by students as well.

However, reports indicate that courses that attracted the least applicants, as well as the universities least competitive in offering certain courses, will not be revealed.

As announced by CS Magoha earlier this year, there will be a 100 percent transition for students into tertiary institutions.

“Our government has ensured that every child in our country has a place to pursue a career, and everyone deserves a chance," Magoha said.

This means all the 143,000 candidates who scored a C+ and above will be placed in various universities to pursue degree course while the remaining students will be absorbed into colleges to undertake diploma, certificate, and artisan skills.

CS Magoha had assured Kenyans that KUCCPS would work in conjunction with the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) to ensure institutions are well prepared for student intake.

“This is in line with the Ministry of Education’s goal of providing fair and balanced access to quality and relevant higher education and training and the President’s policy of 100 per cent transition,” CS Magoha stated while releasing the 2020 KCSE results.

However, the big question is whether the 43,000 students who missed out on their preferred degree and failed to apply to university were placed.

32,718 of them, were eligible to apply for placement in universities and colleges but missed out on their preferred courses due to the stiff competition. 10,707 of the students, did not make any course selections.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mercy Wahome had assured that all the students will be tracked down to ensure no one misses out on university or college.
