Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has issued an update on ongoing investigations regarding the death of two brothers from Kianjokoma in Embu County.

The two brothers; Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura died over two weeks ago after they were allegedly arrested by police.

The two were laid to rest at Kianjokoma Primary school in Embu County on Friday.

Issuing an update during his Engage the IG session, IG Mutyambai noted that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has concluded the investigations and forwarded its file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He further noted that all officers from the affected station have been suspended to create room for investigation.

"Good morning, first, my sincere condolences to the Kianjokama family. IPOA has concluded investigations on the matter and forwarded the file to the DPP for action. Meanwhile, all the officers have been suspended with immediate effect to pave way for prosecution," he said.

The IG has vowed to ensure justice is served and called upon the locals to keep calm as due process is followed.

"I assure you that justice for the Kianjokoma brothers will be served, but this can only be done if we allow the proper due process to take place with concrete evidence that can stand a trial in the court of justice," he said.

Last week,  President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered top security chiefs to conduct thorough investigations and give him a report on how the two brothers die.

The Head of State is keen to establish what exactly led to the death of the two brothers and ensure justice is served.

In line with the directive, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and Attorney General Kihara Kariuki have already met the father of the two brothers who died controversially.
