Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has appointed Bruno Isiho Soshio as the new police spokesperson, Charles Owino was reassigned.

Mr.  Soshio is a former deputy head of the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit.

Bruno Soshio, a seasoned detective, was on Tuesday unveiled as the spokesman for the service.Bruno's appointment comes about four months after Charles Owino was moved to the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons (KNFP) where he is currently serving as Deputy Director.

Owino was appointed NPS spokesperson in 2015, a position he served until 2021 when he was reassigned.

During his tenure, Owino was known to vehemently defend police officers and take critics head-on over operations at Vigilance House (police headquarters).

Speaking on the transfer, Owino noted that the transfer would make him less visible and minimize any controversy that may taint his image now that he is keen on contesting for the Siaya County gubernatorial seat.

“I've put my best foot forward in the National Police Service (NPS). The transfer accords me less visibility and controversy before my time to leave the service comes either late this year or early next year to contest Siaya Governor's seat.

"The transfer was not done in bad faith. You automatically become prejudiced the moment you declare interest in a political seat. It is only fair that I get deployed to an area with less focus and visibility,” he said.

Earlier in the year, Charles Owino had declared that he will be contesting for the Siaya Gubernatorial seat in 2022.

He also announced that he would be leaving the National Police Service in December 2021.
