Felix Jarongo Odeny announced that he will vie for the presidency in 2022 as an independent candidate.

A teacher from Homa Bay County has declared his presidential bid, seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta come 2022.

According to Citizen Digital, Felix Jarongo Odeny who hails from Kanyadhiang’ village, Karachuonyo constituency announced that he will vie for the presidency in 2022 as an independent candidate.

While addressing the public in Homa Bay on August 18, the teacher turned politician stated that he has long had his eyes on State House. He noted his lack of political affiliations as a key component of his bid.

Odeny resigned from his previous job as a teacher at St Augustine University of Tanzania, Tanzania, in 2018.

The teacher has made his intentions of being Kenya's fifth president clear. He notes that, though he is yet to launch or embark on mega nationwide presidential campaigns, he will not be swayed from his goal.

Odeny believes he has what it takes to compete against other presidential aspirants in 2022 and emerge victorious.

He joins numerous candidates in the race for State House including; Deputy President William Ruto, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, former UNCTAD boss Mukhisa Kituyi and former paramilitary officer and Kiambu Bishop Zablon Karanja Mbugua.

Odeny whether vying for the goal of being president or getting something out of it, perhaps a state job, is following in the footsteps of former presidential aspirant Mwalimu Abduba Dida.

Dida, who taught English Literature and Religion at Lenana School and Daadab Secondary School, contested the 2013 presidential elections and garnered 52,848 votes which represented 0.43 percent of the popular vote.

Well, he did not become president, but he earned himself a state job.
