  • The Deputy President has been opposed to the formation of political coalitions with other parties insisting that his new party UDA is after forming a national party which all leaders should use a their ticket in the next general elections.

Deputy President William Ruto has said that the politics of ethnicity has no place in Kenya.

Speaking after a meeting with United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders and Kitui County elected leaders, the second in command said the country is moving forward, regardless of what ethnicity one comes from.

He went on to say that this is happening because they are equipped with development plans that will change lives of millions of Kenyans for better.

"Ethnic political alliances have no place in our country. We are moving forward together, our backgrounds notwithstanding, equipped with purposeful development plans that will permanently lift millions of Kenyans out of poverty," said DP Ruto.

He added that Kenya is way past the politics of coercion.

A few days ago, DP Ruto termed the formation of the coalitions as a show of defeat to his opponents.

He has in many instances described them as people who have no plan for Kenyans and they just want to share positions of power.

Among the leaders present in the meeting held at his Karen residence, were 17 Members of County Assembly from Kitui and area MPs Nimrod Mbai, Victor Munyaka and Vincent Kawaya.

Turkana Governor, Josephat Nanok, former Cabinet Minister Gideon Ndambuki, former Assistant Minister Peter Kyalo Kaindi, former Kilome MP Regina Ndambuki, former Nairobi County Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke, former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama who is the UDA Chairman and and former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar were also present in the Friday meeting.
