According to the detectives, the car dealer, 29-yr-old Abdulmanaf Omar is part of a gang of three suspects who have been robbing unsuspecting customers.

DCI narrated how the Nigerian National had hired a car from Omar for a month which he had paid for in full and agreed that he would return the car on August 18, 2021.

When the day came, Omar and his accomplices went to the Nigerian’s apartment and asked to have a word with him outside before they handcuffed bundled him into the car he had hired and drove off claiming to be taking him to the police station.

They however, drove to Old Town, Mombasa where they robbed the Nigerian of US Dollars 700 which was in the car and a wrist watch worth Sh120,000.

They also called the Nigerian’s wife and demanded a Sh50,000 bribe before they threw him out of the car and drove away.

Omar and two other men dressed in civilian clothes but who introduced themselves as police officers, knocked at the victim's door within Emirates Reef Apartments in Nyali-Mombasa, seeking to have a word with him outside the house. Once outside, the two alleged officers handcuffed the victim, before tossing him in the Toyota Spade and driving off."

"Against their word that they were taking him to Central Police Station, the trio drove towards Mombasa Old Town, where they stole 700 USD from the car and the victim's wrist watch valued at Sh120,000. The gang then called the victim's 26-yr-old wife and demanded a ransom of Sh50,000, in order to secure her husband's release. Once she complied, by sending the money, the victim was thrown out of the vehicle and the thugs disappeared,” narrated DCI.

The suspects were captured on CCTV around the area as they robbed from the Nigerian who reported the matter to Nyali Police station and a manhunt for the three was launched.
