  • Through the Nairobi City County Public Nuisance Bill, 2021 the county government has introduced new measures that are expected to govern city residents on a day to day basis.

The County Government of Nairobi under the leadership of Acting Governor Ann Kananu has rolled out several new regulations meant to maintain high hygiene standards and keep the city clean.

Through the Nairobi City County Public Nuisance Bill, 2021 the county government has introduced new measures that are expected to govern city residents on a day to day basis.

Below is a list of the new regulations introduced by the Nairobi County Government for all city residents:

• No blowing nose without a handkerchief or tissue paper.

• No urinating in undesignated spaces.

• No spitting on the streets.

• No sleeping in kitchens or food stores.

• No discharge of dirty water, sewer or effluent into streets or water channels.

• No obstruction of roads or streets.

• No riding bikes, motorcycles or driving on footpaths.

• No playing loud music

• No smoking in undesignated places.

Speaking after accenting to the new law, Acting Governor Kananu noted that all residents should adhere to the new regulations in order to avoid clashing with the authorities.

 “Nairobi is the face of Kenya. We all need a clean and hygienic environment to live and work in. This is part of what we promised our great people of Nairobi. We must work round the clock to achieve this. A healthy environment is paramount to all of us,” she said as quoted by Citizen.
